Walls of witness

Houses of god take 12-steps in creating family wellness in the face of drug and alcohol abuse

Unfortunately, most of our common knowledge about drugs—to include alcohol—has little or no ability to protect our faith community. All are at huge risk because we don’t even know what we don’t know about drugs today. “Common” drugs such as, marihuana, cocaine, heroin, and LSD have worse consequences than before. New drugs like “O.C.s,” “Roxies”, “Fruit Salad”, “Pharming”, ”Salvia”, “K-2”, “Spice”, and “Backpacking” are foreign to those of us who are expected to protect our kids. Based on your knowledge now could you help guide the members of your faith community either by preventing the use of or dealing with the ramifications of the use of these drugs?

Bob Stutman

Bob will talk about the old drugs we used to use that have been revitalized and the new drugs that most adults have never heard of….. Are we winning the drug war?

What is happening in our Middle Schools, High Schools, and Colleges?

Who are the drug users?

What are the accurate predictors of substance abuse?

What can we as a country, state, and community do about it?

Rev. Judine Duerwaechter, MDiv., MFT

Rev. Judine will talk about faith communities doing their best to prevent a substance abuse problem and learning how to deal with it should one present itself. She will take the overall situation that Bob Stutman will present and give it specific meaning to the clergy.

I have been to several drug prevention seminars, but have never been moved the way I was during your presentation. Your blunt, honest manner really drives home the gravity of this situation. I am convinced so many of our parents here are in the dark about how big this problem really is in our community. As you stated yourself, I think parents here think of drugs as an inner city problem and not one that continues to kill in our own backyard.–Senior Reporter ABC 7 News, Fort Myers, FL
